Description

The Norns pour water on Yggdrasill' is a frieze by Dagfin Werenskiold that is displayed outside Oslo City Hall together with eleven other friezes of his. The friezes are made of pine deck timber, impregnated with linseed oil, and then painted and gilded with gold or silver. The frieze depicts two of the Norns watering Yggdrasill with water from the Well of Urd. It is said that the spray water from the well is what causes dew in the valleys, and is why Yggdrasill remains evergreen.
