Current data for Description

The reconstruction of the hall at Borg shows how large the greatest Viking halls could be. Originally built in the 500s to a length of 67m, it was rebuilt and extended so that it was 83m long by the beginning of the Viking Age. This is the longest hall known from the Viking Age.

It is not hard to imagine Valhalla with its 540 doors when confronted by a structure of this size. Of course, most people would have lived in much smaller houses, but the scale of the construction of Borg is impressive and indicates that a high status lord lived here.
