In the early iron age (Norwegian 500 - 1030 A.D.). Borg had already been a powerful centre for hundreds of years. The oldest version of the Chieftain´s house was built around 500 AD, and became part of a centre of social and religious status that already had existed forlong times and was to last for several centuries. An archeological sensation: 1983 saw the start of the excavation, and in 1986 - 1989 specialists scholars from the entire Nordic area converged Borg. The excavation slowly but surely uncovered the largest house in the Viking world, both in Norway and in Europe. There are several foundation walls in the vicinity that indicates habitation before the chieftain´s hall was raised and after it was demolished. When the excavation began, some of the subsided turf walls were just visible in the terrain. The excavation uncovered the floor-plan. Traces were found of the outside walls, entrances, partitions, floors, hearths and the internal load-bearing posts. The 83-metre house had been divided into 5 main rooms, as shown in the reconstructed building today Viking festival - Wednesday - Sunday, August 5 - 9 2015 This years theme is "Stories and myths".
