Title
Gokstad Burial Chamber
Subject

Description
This burial chamber was constructed towards the stern of the Gokstad ship. A tall man in his 40s or 50s was buried in it. The chamber was covered with birch bark, and remnants of silk were found between the logs of the roof. The burial chamber contained a bed that had been made up with linen. The body had been laid to rest in this bed.

Dear Mr Dale
I am a master crafsman studying early carpentry, I would be grateful if you could help me with my research. Please could you answer the following questions for me:
Is there a detailed archaeological report on the Gokstad burial chamber?
Has treering dating be done on the timbers of the Gokstad Burial chamber?
Do we know the date of this building? Could the building be older that the Golstad Ship?
What species of trees were used in the construction of the Burial Chamber?
I would be very grateful for your assistance
Wishing you good health and a Happy New Year
Best wishes
Paul Reed MA Cons. York
