Ottar was reconstructed by the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde using authentic materials and construction techniques, and is crewed by 6-15 people. It is a Knarr type ship that would have been used to transport cargo, including on longer journeys to Norse colonies in the British Isles, Iceland and Greenland. Though a small example of its type, Ottar is a very stable vessel with good cargo-carrying capacity.
