Frieze: The Eagle in Yggdrasill
Art
The Eagle in Yggdrasill' is a frieze by Dagfin Werenskiold that is displayed outside Oslo City Hall together with eleven other friezes of his. The friezes are made of pine deck timber, impregnated with linseed oil, and then painted and gilded with gold or silver. The eagle sits in the top branches of Yggdrasill, the World Tree, while the squirrel Ratatosk carries the eagle's words to Nidhogg, who sits beneath the tree gnawing its roots.
