Ottar is a reconstruction of Skuldelev 1, an ocean-going cargo vessel from c. 1030 discovered in the Roskilde Fjord barrier along with several other Viking ships. Ottar was reconstructed by the Viking Ship Museum in Roskilde using authentic materials and construction techniques, and is crewed by 6-15 people. It is a Knarr type ship that would have been used to transport cargo, including on longer journeys to Norse colonies in the British Isles, Iceland and Greenland. Though a small example of its type, Ottar is a very stable vessel with good cargo-carrying capacity. More information at
