News: May have found St Olaf's Church
News
Archaeologists digging in Trondheim have found human remains and the remains of a church that may date to the early 11th century. The site, behind the library in Trondheim, was thought to be the location of a church, but now proof has been found, and it is speculated that the church was connected to Olaf Haraldsson who became St Olaf after his death at Stiklestad in 1030.
Remains of earlier buildings from the 9th and 10th centuries have also been found in this area of central Trondheim.

News Item: Soldiers of Odin, dubbed 'extreme anti-refugee group,' patrol Edmonton streets
Misappropriation / White Supremacy
This is a news article from the CBC website about the activities of an extreme anti-refugee group dubbed the 'soldiers of Odin'. Their logo is a viking (with horned helmet) with a Canadian flag as a beard. Organisations such as this are a reminder that the historical misuse of pseudo-viking imagery by far right groups (including in Nazi Germany) to express notions of racial exclusion and white supremacy continues today.

News: DNA Hunters have opened Viking grave in Normandy
News
Norwegian researchers have finally been able to open the tomb of descendants of the Viking leader Hrólfr (Rollo). They plan to find out if Rollo was the same as Hrólfr from Møre. If he is, this would mean that the British royal family originated from Norway, and that the Norwegian royal family has a much older lineage than is currently believed to be the case.

Romeria Vikinga: Vikings Reenact Raid of Galicia
Video
Viking enthusiasts donned ferocious warrior outfits, storming the banks of Catoira as part of the "Romeria Vikinga" festival. The mass reenactment is based on the attack on the village by a Viking tribe, with participants using a replica of a Viking boat to simulate the raid. The Vikings' arrival by boat culminated in a mock battle, including clashes with fake swords, axes and hammers, while playing drums and blowing horns.
