Course Syllabus: Religion and Mythology in the Viking Age
Description
An account of the resource
This is the syllabus for a course on pre-Christian religion/s in the Viking Age, which I taught in the spring of 2014. It was part of a two-semester 'valgfag' programme at Aarhus University titled "Viking Studies", so the students (drawn from a range of academic backgrounds) were expected to have at least a passing familiarity with Late-Iron-Age culture and history.

Pre-Viking Dragon Head Stem Post in the Limburgs Museum
Subject
The topic of the resource
Artefact - Pre-Viking
Description
An account of the resource
This distinctive dragon-head stem post probably came from a ship, and was recovered from the River Scheldt in the Netherlands. It has been carbon-dated to the Migration Period and demonstrates that elaborate carved figure-heads pre-dated the Vikings. It was bought by the British Museum, but was photographed in a temporary exhibition on Dragons at the Limburgs Museum in the Netherlands. Original c. 57 inches.
