Description
Proclamation and Artwork produced for the 2016 Up Helly A', and on public display in Lerwick, Shetland. The proclamations typically poke fun at the establishment.
The Up Helly A' is a festival celebrated on the 24th day after Christmas in Shetland. The celebrations involve a parade of 1000 guizers led by a Jarl, and culminates in the burning of a galley (an elaborate replica of a Viking ship). The Up Helly A exhibition is open year round, and features the Viking-themed costumes used in the history of the festival, as well as a galley, the public proclamations published before the festival each year, and paintings of the festivities.
