Reconstructed Viking Ship 'Helge Ask' photographed off the west coast of Sweden
Subject
Reconstructed Viking ships
Description
The Helge Ask is an accurate reconstruction of the 17.5 meter warship Skuldelev 5, discovered in the Roskilde Fjord along with several other Viking Age ships that had been deliberately scuttled. The original (dating to c. 1040) is housed in the Viking Ship Museum, Roskilde, and the reconstruction sails with a crew of around 30. It is photographed here from the deck of the Sea Stallion, another reconstructed Viking ship with a crew of 65.
