The Vikings in Norway

Viking Ages finds from Norway

The Finds from Fevang in Sandefjord accompanied a burial. They were primarily tools: pliers, a frying pan, a chain for hanging a pot over a fire, and a pot handle. The display in Slottsfjellsmuseet also includes bronze oval brooches, glass beads and silver arm rings.

The Arrow Heads are typical for the Viking Age. They are made of iron and would have been used mainly for hunting.

The Chest from the Oseberg burial is like the sort of chest that most people would have used to keep their private belongings in. These chests could have padlocks fitted to try to prevent theft. When travelling at sea, a Viking sailor would have also used a chest like this as his seat when rowing.

The Bucket with a 'Buddha' Image is from the Gokstad burial. The 'Buddha' is made of enamel and brass. The bucket is made of yew with brass hoops. It is one of several buckets found with the Gokstad ship.
