Reconstruction of Tjodhilde's Church in Brattahlíð, Greenland

Title

Reconstruction of Tjodhilde's Church in Brattahlíð, Greenland

Subject

Church - Viking Age

Description

Tjodhild came to Greenland with her husband Erik the Red, founder of the first settlement in Greenland at Brattahlíð. The small church (or chapel) at Brattahlíð (Þjóðhildarkirkja) was named after her, and is probably the first church in North America. This reconstructed church, along with a replica of a Viking Longhouse, stands near to the original site in what is now Qassiarsuk. For more information, see http://www.greenland.com/en/
