Description

Volund has thoughts of revenge' is a frieze by Dagfin Werenskiold that is displayed outside Oslo City Hall together with eleven other friezes of his. The friezes are made of pine deck timber, impregnated with linseed oil, and then painted and gilded with gold or silver. This frieze shows the smith contemplating revenge for the indignities he suffered at the hands of Nidud. He has a walking stick because Nidud severed his hamstrings, and he contemplates the children who will be the vehicle of his vengeance.
